Meet Jakub Łabno, Backend Development

With nearly a decade of experience at LINK, Jakub has grown into a skilled Backend Developer who works on developing and maintaining the SMSAPI platform, one of LINK’s core sub-brands. His path is a story of steady growth, curiosity, and learning, evolving from his early days in Customer Support into a technical career shaped by his willingness to take on new challenges and broaden his expertise.
Jakub’s world beyond coding
When he's not deep in code, Jakub enjoys stepping back in time. His free hours are often spent tinkering with old cars and exploring retro electronics, especially Commodore computers. He’s also an avid fan of classic video games, drawn to the simplicity and charm of earlier eras.
What is it about retro games that you enjoy?
There’s something about those retro titles that never gets old. They remind me of a time when games didn’t need complex graphics or huge worlds to be fun. Just good ideas, catchy music and a bit of imagination.
As a child, Jakub’s career dreams were simple and full of imagination. First he pictured himself as a firefighter, and later as a pizza delivery driver on a scooter, both roles that seemed exciting and meaningful to his younger self.
What did you dream of doing when you were younger?
When I was a kid, being a firefighter felt heroic and exciting, and the idea of delivering pizza on a scooter sounded just as fun in my eyes. Both dreams were refreshingly simple, but they captured exactly what fascinated me at the time: action, freedom and a sense of adventure. As a kid, those two jobs seemed like the most fun in the world.
When the conversation turns to superpowers, Jakub’s answer reveals his curiosity and his interest in understanding people.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I’d love to understand all the languages in the world. Imagine being able to speak to anyone, anywhere, without barriers! It would also be a great superpower to have at LINK, since we are so many different nationalities.
A decade of growth and change at LINK Mobility
Jakub’s story at LINK is one of steady development, growing confidence, and discovering where his strengths truly lie. What began as a step into something unfamiliar gradually turned into a long-term career shaped by curiosity and a willingness to learn.
How did you first end up at LINK?
My brother told me about LINK and said I should give it a try. I had no idea it would turn into a journey lasting more than 10 years!
From that first step, his career path unfolded naturally. Jakub started in Customer Support, learning the platform from the user’s perspective. He then moved briefly into Quality Assurance, gaining a deeper understanding of how things work behind the scenes. Eventually, he found his long-term direction in Backend Development, a role he has now held for five years while helping to develop and refine the SMSAPI platform.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
A day usually starts with planning meetings for our current projects. After that, it’s a mix of coding, code reviews and working closely with the team. Twice a week we also have company lunches, which is a simple but meaningful way to stay connected.
Trust, growth and team spirit
After more than a decade at LINK, Jakub’s reasons for staying go far beyond the work itself. For him, LINK has become a place where he can grow, take initiative and feel supported by the people around him.
Why have you chosen to stay at LINK for so many years?
LINK gives me space to grow, trust to take initiative, and opportunities to develop in my own direction. It’s a place where anyone who wants to improve their skills and take on new challenges can thrive.
When asked to describe LINK in one word, his answer comes quickly.
If you had to describe LINK in one word, what would it be?
Opportunities!
Jakub also values the atmosphere in the office, where colleagues are approachable, helpful and easy to collaborate with. Even the small routines play a part in creating a strong sense of connection.
What is one everyday routine at LINK that you really value?
Company lunches are simple moments, but they genuinely help build a sense of team spirit and bring people together in a relaxed way.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about joining LINK?
Don’t think twice, just apply! LINK is a place where you can grow, learn and try new things. If you are motivated and curious, you will find plenty of opportunities here.
